Our work with vehicle occupancy survivability (put in some stuff about Nordine business here)  IDL has supported chassis design for global clients. Considering structure, and energy absorption techniques through shape, process, and material choice.

Our teams have developed, from the ground up, total defence platforms from lightweight and re-roll vehicles including WMIK through to full MRAP -Tactical Wheeled Vehicles.  We have been delighted to support many of the world’s top defence organisations across a range of programmes.  Developing both designs for armouring, up-armouring, and appliqué to support both blast and high kinetic events. Our designs supported by both dynamic modelling and physical testing have produced workable solutions to support tactical activities with hi-level protection through unique system engineering.

We enhance this specialist defence sector by system engineering and system integration, understanding the mission profile and the requirements of the end user. Behind Armour Effects (BAE) to blast Mitigation seating, we have developed packages that support the end user whilst in theatre including human factor engineering.

Taking the knowledge of defence vehicle engineering our team has been involved with diplomatic and blue light vehicle modifications. Diplomatic 4×4 vehicles working with OEM to produce high quality products.  Police 4×4 and incident related vehicles to 30t.

Protection isn’t just armour: the human factors and in-vehicle occupancy package together with survivability is an area of special expertise.  Total vehicle design includes the manoeuvrability in mission of both the platform and user within the vehicle. Servicing and support of all platform and system engineering is carefully developed including theatre re-roll and post service UOR to Core or reconfiguration, through to capital projects to reuse components to support aging fleet and life-extension projects.

Deployed through any mission profile needs the upmost protection, this area has gone beyond the defence envelope and with the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 IDL has worked within the CBRN field to deliver.

Design and Development

• Iliac Seat — The iliac seat is a distinctive and sophisticated office chair design that is manufactured to provide targeted support for the pelvis crest rather than the spine. The focus on protecting the pelvis region while seated is a direct solution in tackling lower back pain caused from lack of support in the essential areas. The lowest two discs of the spinal cord are inverted to support the angle of the pelvis which is positioned vertically in a standing position, this area in a sitting position is the most common cause of lower back pain and has been largely neglected in office chair and vehicle seat designs.An average office chair usually aims to increase lumbar support which has been proven to be more harmful to users. The iliac seat was designed to change this and provide the solution to preventable back pain by supporting the iliac crest on each side of the pelvis to offer the ultimate back support.
• DextraLift — the Dextralift has been specially designed to work as a semi-automation in harsh environments such as nuclear decommissioning, ordinance handling, or anywhere with tough terrain where an ordinary materials handler would not fulfil its purpose.

• Official Armoured Range Rover — Iliac Design have assembled the supplier network for the design and production of the impressive JLR Range Rover Sentinal which has been the highest level of VR8 protection available on any production vehicle.
• Blast Seat — Based on extensive research and the early development of the iliac seat, the blast seat has been constructed to ensure the posture of the occupant in the seat is ensures the best possible survivability in a blast event.
